Shady's Tail, Er, Tale chapter 5 - The Begining

The next morning Shady woke as the sun began to rise.  He had much on his mind first of which was where to find breakfast seeing as he hadn't eaten lately.  He changed back to human form and decided to try an experiment. Pulling the brown happyrock he held it up and almost laughing at such a frivelous use of such a powerful item he asked "Where can I find a free breakfast!"  To his surprise it flared up again and shot the light out which led him back to town.  He got many strange looks as he followed the glowing light through the streets and it finally stopped at a small house, he waited for it to continue but instead it winked out and the stone went cold again. Still chuckling to himself he knocked on the door.  From inside he heard a familiar voice call out "Just a second!"  When the door opened there was Lave.  "Hi Gary!  Find what you were looking for?"  At this Shady bust out laughing and got a confused look from his friend.  He then told Lave what he had used the happyrock for.  "Well far be it for me to say the brown happyrock is a liar, come on in and meet the family."

Upon entering the house a little girl about 6 years old came and greeted this new arrival.  "Hi mister, you must be Gary, daddy told me about you and how you saved his life."  Lave quickly sent her to help her mom in the kitchen.

"Lave can I ask you something?"  Caught off guard by the seriousness of Shady's voice he nodded in response.  "Why were you on the other side of the Divide?"

Obviously relieved, and appearing as if reminded of something, Lave picked up a box and opened it.  Inside were 2 shining stones, similar to the brown one Shady had.  "Someone told me these were on the other side.  One red one blue.  I don't know what they do, perhaps you can find out.  We wanted to keep all the rocks together for when the Heroes return."  He handed the stones to Shady and these seemed to light up brighter just by being held. Shady put the blue one down and held the red one his is hand.  He could feel it's power flowing through him.

"This one, I think, increases strength... A lot I might add."  He put it down and picked up the blue one.  Holding it and looking at it blankly. "This one I have no clue, I can't feel any difference at all."  He held it out and said aloud "Blue!" but nothing happened.  He looked back at Lave and shrugged unknowingly.  A feminine voice came from behind him.

"Hey you two, stop admiring his rock collection and come eat"  Shady was already in the next room before she finished speaking.  He enjoyed a quick breakfast and told Lave all he had learned the other day.  "Well that sounds like quite a challenge, finding the gold circle is will be like finding a needle in a haystack."

Shady smiled and held out the brown happyrock and replied "More like finding a needle in a stack of needles" to which his friend laughed.  When they were done eating and cleaning up Shady started making his way to the door.  "Bye Lave!  Take care!"  Lave realizing his friend was leaving on his journey quickly ran to the other room and grabbed his stuff.  Shady knowing he wouldn't be able to talk him out of it waited at the door.  Lave said his goodbyes to his family and the two headed out on a new journey.
