Saga and Christi left the city of Saga's past behind heading out through the West gate at daybreak, as per Xane's instructions. Xane related that there was a portal some 25 miles due West of the city, and not being familiar with the location left Saga's teleportation magic useless, and flying would make any telltale signs of such a device harder to spot. So they made their way by the old-fasioned approach; walking.
Of course, resting did take time away from the march, and before they knew it, night had fallen, and they had to set up. Thankfully, Saga still had access to his Pocket Dimension and was able to pull out a couple fo sleeping bags. He also set up a fire, of course but he had no idea where this would lead. After Saga had pulled off his everpresent armor, Christi began to speak.
"Saga, how did that ghost recognize
who you were? Could he sense the truth of your soul?"
"Yes. Basically I have lived out
innumerable past lives, always fighting beside the noblest warriors against
the forces of evil. That city was one such place, and Xane was its chief
commander."
"Actually this explains something
I've felt from you ever since we met two years ago."
"Being?"
"You're a lonelydrak."
"Huh?"
"You miss all of your friends from
so long ago, but you don't need to be lonely, at least while I'm around."
Saga then felt something from her
that he should have sensed before. Christi actually posessed an aura of
kindness and emotional warmth. That is why she was made a diplomat. She
could make freinds with almost anything. Christi then patted the ground
next to her and said: "Lie here for a while, Saga, then we'll go to sleep."
Saga lay perpendicular to her, laying
his head in her lap, and as she stroked the back his head and neck, he
realized how lonely he really was...
The next day, Saga and Christi left their camp with renewed vigor and a greater understanding of each other. In what Saga estimated to be the mid-afternoon by the position of the sun, they found, to their surprise, a large red 'X' in the middle of the path they had been following. Saga spotted a note in the middle of the 'X', which was written in the ancient Paladinal script, something he was well familiar with. It read:
Hey, Saga,
I did this for you just in case you would miss it. I forgot to tell you back in the city, that this is a universal portal, meaning it can take you anywhere as long as you have the correct key item. Hope this helps you out.
Your eternal friend,
Albion Roland Xane.
P.S. Two things. #1, That girl's latent power is far greater than the power any of the High Paladins have ever had since the beginning of the order. #2, She's a good kid. You take care of her, and she'll take care of you.
Saga looked at the 'X', knowing that he had his work cut out for him. The first thisng he did was cast a spell to find out what was needed to get to the most favorable locations. Getting back to Alfandra directly required the spine of a demon, something he had no inclination to look for at this moment, however what he needed to get back to his Earth, headquarters of the Alliance of Spacefaring Races, was more simple, and even right under his snout...
