Aarnia's Tale part 2 - Waking Up To A Dream continued

Aarnia wasn't sure if he had been knocked unconscious by the fall. In fact he couldn't be sure if he was conscious now. He was lying on short, perfectly green grass, moist from the mist floating in the night. He hadn't been lying here, unconscious, from day to nightfall. It had been night already when he fell. At least that he was telling himself. But he wasn't sure if he believed.

*after all, it could have been the shadow of the tree. I didn't exactly get a good look** He thought to himself and tried to remember what had happened next. He had fallen on the grass. Then he had had the feeling of waking up, without any recollection of dreaming. One thing Aarnia was sure about, though: he was awake. As strange as it seemed, he had fallen 30 feed down from a tree that was only 20 feet tall, on grass that wasn't growing beneath it, and at night, though it had been morning. And he hadn't one scratch on his body.

*The only way this could make sense would be if I was asleep. This could well be a dream, if I wasn't so sure I'm not asleep. And I'm not! It's impossible. But so is this.*

Aarnia looked around him again. From this vantagepoint (lying on his belly in the grass) it seemed that he was lying on a perfectly flat meadow, surrounded by a thick wall of trees that could perhaps be oaks, but he couldn't really say for sure from this distance. Above them arched the sky, that was of an unseen shade of blue, at the same time light and dark, cold and warm. And it *was* night, that much was obvious from the stars dotting the sky, though it was so light he could have easily read a book, had he one with him.

*Just like the nightless night in Finland* he thought to himself. *Though you wouldn't really see that much stars then... And what a care-free thought that was, in this strange situation. Gather yorself, Aarnia! I don't know what just happened but I did not come out of my soul-journey in the same world I started in.* That was the theory he had come up with, you see. That for some reason, he had slipped into some other body in some other reality, instead of reaching consciousness normally in his body in Alfandra. Since he was  capable of this sort of body-shifting, it didn't seem like such an unlikely possibility.

*But this is no time to start worrying about why's. Right now, there are two relevant questions: how do I get back to where I started, and why am I still lying on this wet grass? Eww!* Aarnia literally jumped up on his feet and brushed the grass of his naked body. *And why am I naked? I...* It was then that it struck him, that he had his own body, though in wingless form, and not the form of some other thing his spirit may have inhabited once. And to his knowledge, he was the only one of his kind in the accessable multiverse.

*This is getting weirder and weirder... and I'm getting the hades out of here right NOW!*

Aarnias concentrated to slip himself into the Between, as he called the state of existance he used to travel between bodies in the multiverse or to shift into their forms. But this time he wasn't traveling anywhere but this body - he simply couln't feel the others. In fact, he couldn't sense any living things at all - in the whole multiverse!

*Uh-Oh, I guess now IS the time start worrying...*
