Aarnia is perched on a large branch, wings folded against his back, arms resting on his knees. If someone passed by and greeted him, he would not answer, as he is almost completely oblivious of the outside world. It is indeed almost as if he was asleep. But he is not, within the inner cosmos of his mind he is very much aware and awake. For he is traveling in his own subconscious in the hope of finding a better understanding of himself and his origin. Some might say that he is meditating - and might even be right - but Aarnia himself wouldn't use that word for this state. What he does, he has only recently learned by himself through experimentation, and he knows not of the ways of meditation others use.
Submerged in his subconscious mind Aarnia faces
a series of barriers, each one taller than the others. He gets ready to
climb the first one, made entirely of pages of myriads of books glued together,
when something seems to shake the inner reality of his mind. His concentration
starts to break and he feels himself sliding back into
normal state of consciousness. He tries his best,
but can not remain in this lucid dream -like state any longer. He curses
to himself as his experiment fails again.
As the sensory input his body start to flood into
his consciousness again, Aarnia soon becomes aware that things aren't how
they should be. First of all, the direction from which the gravitational
pull is coming is wrong. Second, the branch he was sitting on is not there
anymore. Third, he can't seem to feel his wings, just an itch he
usually feels when his wings are absorbed into
his body. Then he opens his eyes and sees the fourth proof of things being
wrong. It seems that great wall of green grass is approaching him at an
alarming speed. In other words he is falling straight towards the ground.
And he hasn't got his wings.
